WHS Alumni Killed in WW2
We honor those WHS alumni who died in the service of our country.
In observance of the following upcoming days of remembrance: Armed Forces Day, May 17; Memorial Day, May 26; D-Day, June 6; and VJ Day, September 2, the Washington High School Historical Committee is honoring alumni who gave their lives for our country during World War II.
In observance of Armed Forces Day on May 17, 2025, the following fallen alumni represent the branches of the service.
IMarines: Max William Malloy, Pvt. Iwo Jima
INavy: Orville Walter Anderson, Electrician’s Mate 1st Class, US Navy Submarine USS Barbel, - Pacific
INurses Corp: Margie A. Camper, Lt. - India
IArmy Air Force: Harry W. Bessler, 2nd Lt. - Italy.
IU.S. Army Medical Corps: Harry Edward Bringham, Specialist 5 - Luxembourg
IU.S. Army Infantry: Milo Raymond Oihus, Pfc. - Battle of the Bulge


In observance of Memorial Day, May 26, 2025 the following fallen alumni represent those lost in the Pacific Front.
IDarwin Arthur Schmidt, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy- Lost at sea in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
IBernard N. Brende, PFC, U.S. Marine- Lost in the invasion of the Mariana Islands.
IRobert Louis Chambin, Jr., U.S. Navy Submarine USS Growler- Lost with all 90 crew members November 8, 1944, South China Sea.
